Healthy and tasty dinner recipe.

Need to add a bit of va-va-voom in to your healthy dinner? Et voila...

We say it time and time again, but healthy eating doesn’t have to be dull. A chef from London restaurant, Totos has provided Health & Fitness readers with this nutritious recipe. With plenty of healthy fats from the avocado and olive oil, metabolism-boosting properties from the chilli, protein and omega-3 fatty acids from the crab, this meal is good for you AND tastes great. Whether you're cooking for the girls, or treating your other half, healthy eating never tasted so good, or was made so easy.

Bon appetite!

Ingredients:

Crab,
cherry tomatoes,
avocado,
chilli,
spring onions,
sherry vinegar,
lemon,
salt,
extra virgin olive oil and
mix shoots

Method:

- Cook a crab in a boiling water around 10 minutes, take the crab meat from the shell. The crab meat is seasoned with lemon, oil and salt. You can use good quality tinned crab meat, if easier.

 - For the tomato soup, blend 300 g of cherry tomatoes with 2 teapsoons of sherry vinegar, a touch of extra virgin oil of olive and a tiny pinch of sea salt.

- For the avocado sauce, blend 500g of avocado, with one sweet chilli (without seeds) and 100g of spring onions, a pinch of salt and pepper.

- Place a ring on the plate, and fill one with a base of avocado cream, then on the top put the ready season crab salad and pour the tomato soup around the ring.

- Garnish with mix shoots and a sprinkle of oil of olive.

Eight Great Calorie-Burning Workouts.

We asked local trainers and athletes what exercise they’d recommend to burn those calories. While there were various answers, running was the most popular. Try combining some exercises from this list to ensure a calorie-busting workout. And honestly, who wants to do one exercise for an entire workout, anyway?

1. Kettle bell Swings
“Kettle bell swings work the entire body. It’s an aerobic activity that engages all of the large muscle groups, which means you are not only burning calories during the workout, but there is a considerable exercise after-burn, as well. That means your body will continue to burn calories post-workout. While burning calories and eating less is the obvious key to weight loss, any exercise that burns calories and builds muscle simultaneously will help the body burn more at rest, too.”
—Heather Cohen, Vida Fitness
2. Walking Stairs
“Taking duration and intensity into account, I think it is safe to say that walking as quickly up stairs, for as long as possible, is the most calorie-burning exercise out there. It is something everyone can do, for a fairly long time, and something that raises heart rate and blood pressure, as well as recruiting large muscle groups in the body.”
—Monica Pampell, The Sports Club/LA
3. BOSU Burpees
“One of my favourite high intensity exercises is BOSU Burpees, using a BOSU device that is a ball fused with a platform. They kill and can add intensity and boost calorie burning potential. The flat part should be facing up. So when you go into the push up phase you have to stabilize the ball and really use your core muscles. The key for the everyday person would be to do interval training mixing up high intensity activity for short bouts (2 to 5 minutes) with lower intensity recovery bouts of about (1 to 3 minutes). The rest periods during the lower intensity (60 percent of maximum) exercises help the body to recover so that you can work hard again.”
—Elizabeth Brooks, Effervescence Training Studio
4. Boxing
“There is a reason you don’t see a lot of boxers with bad physiques. This combination of anaerobic and aerobic cardio, muscular endurance, and power plus speed and agility through the use of the entire muscular system can’t be beat.”
—Lance Breger, Mint DC
5. Dancing
“Go dancing. I’m not talking about the slow, shy kind. I’m talking about the ‘getting your whole body into it’ kind of dancing. The kind that you would dance if nobody was watching. When I see people in my YALA dance fusion class move, I know they are burning huge amounts of calories, but they are also having fun. And I’m positive (although I haven’t done any scientific experiments) that when you are enjoying, something, you tend to push yourself just a little bit more making you burn more calories than an exercise you would do just to do it.”
—Laurent Amzallag, YALA Fitness
6. Lunges
“I would have to say lunges. Similar to squats, they are a great full-body exercise—they work all the major leg muscles, the core, and can work shoulders and upper back if you challenge yourself by holding dumbbells. But they are easier to perform properly than squat, which people often injure themselves doing.”
—Ryan Stitt, VIDA Fitness on U St.
7. Running
“Running is the most efficient workout. For 40 to 60 minutes of activity, I think it burns about the most calories of any exercise and it is very convenient and has a minimal barrier to entry (now, not even shoes are needed) that some of the other really high-calorie-burning activities like cross country skiing or rowing do.”
—Michael Wardian, professional marathon runner.
8. Running Intervals
“In my unscientific opinion, running intervals is the best way to burn calories, both during the workout and after ward. I think many experts agree that high-intensity training gets the most bang for its buck. The drawback for runners is that you can’t do this type of training every day—maybe two to three days per week at the most!”

Fruits, Vegetables and Herbs Used for Migraine Headaches.

Migraines start  with the constriction of blood vessels in the brain, followed by expansion (causes the pain). Beforehand symptoms that blood vessels are constricting are vision and mood changes. Some triggers are strong emotions, hormonal changes, allergies, medications.
Like all food suggestions, knowing what the cause (emotional, chemical allergy, etc) helps aid in knowing what to juice.
I have seen a lot of people who have common allergies to gluten, dairy and the like elimate these from their diet and have success in getting rid of their bad headaches completely. It might be worth it to visit your doctor to get food allergy tests, or better yet, conduct your own by process of elimination. Most of us that have alleriges usually have a sneaking suspicion of what it might be.
Fruits and vegetables to juice:
Apples, Beets, Blackberries, Broccoli, Cantaloupe, Carrots, Celery, Leafy Greens, Onions
Herbs to juice or have in tea/tinctures:
Cayenne, Cinnamon, Dandelion, Fever few, Garlic, *German Chamomile, Ginger, Lemon Balm, Parsley, Rosemary, *Vervain
*If emotion related (to calm nerves)
I have seen great success with juicing a sprig of rosemary in with a juice drink.
If the cause is dehydration from heat or from excessive alcohol consumption, juicing coconut or drinking coconut water can help restore missing nutrients to ease or banish the pain.

Foods to Prevent Gray Hair.

Are you on a ruthless routine hunt for gray hairs? Get this — there’s often more to the cause of those pesky grays than simple genetics. Did you know that a number of nutritional deficiencies can actually cause your hair to lose its luster? Reach for foods that contain essential vitamins and minerals to maintain your colourful tresses and enjoy an ample dose of additional health benefits.

1. Leafy Greens

Reach for dark leafy greens to get your essential B vitamins. Your scalp relies on Vitamin B-6 and Vitamin B-12 for the production of red blood cells which transport oxygen and nutrients. Hair colour is also all about hormones and Vitamin B-2 is an important player in hormone production.

2. Chocolate

Copper is essential to the production of melanin — the source of hair colour. As such, copper deficiencies can cause hair to gray. To load up on copper, reach for a sweet treat. Semisweet chocolate packs the power of copper; additional copper-rich foods include lentils and mushrooms.

3. Salmon

Salmon is often touted for its health benefits so it is of little surprise this seafood staple provides a healthy hair essential. The selenium found in salmon helps regulate the hormone production essential to healthy tresses. This trace mineral fights free radicals to boot.

4. Berries

Berries and strawberries in particular — are a delicious way to get an extra boost of Vitamin C. Vitamin C helps produce collagen (found within hair follicles) and fight free radicals which have been linked with the aging process. Additional antioxidant vitamins include Vitamin A (think orange and yellow fruits) and Vitamin E (go for nuts and beans).

5. Almonds

For an on-the-go boost of Vitamin E and copper, reach for almonds. They’re an easy snack to combat the mid-meal munchies and a number of studies suggest that almond consumption can help lower bad LDL cholesterol levels.
